Because I chose biochemistry as my career

Hi, I'll start with the story of why I chose to study biochemistry.

Since I was little I liked medicine, I have always been very curious, I like to explore and since I have been living in the countryside I always explore places, animals, land, water, etc.

I always like to know the why of everything. When I was a child I was questioning everything that was around me hahahah, sometimes the adults did not like that, but I did not realize it, I was very observant with everything and everyone. When I was growing up my mother got sick with cancer, she just wanted to cure it and from there it was born as the idea of studying medicine or something related to that.

When I was in high school I wanted to study medicine until I learned about biochemistry on a trip to the university on the border of Temuco (UFRO), there I met the laboratories and people who were studying biochemistry, I asked many questions and they let me touch everything that was in the laboratory, from there I knew that I wanted to work in that place, a place where I could do everything to investigate everything without disturbing anyone, since it is a place where you can work alone or with people who are just as interested as you.

Well, from that moment it stayed in my head and when I reached the fourth grade where I had to apply for, a profesor helped me to enter with a scholarship to the University of Chile, which for the southerners is the maximum hahah, and I applied for 10 research careers in this university, but my first choice was always biochemistry, and luckily I got into.

My experience at the university has been very crazy, as I said in my previous blog, since a lot of health things happened to me in my first year and things also happened in the country and then in the whole world. So I can't speak much about my university experience, despite of that I was able to be in the labs and I really loved them and that increased my desire to continue studying this and not give up due to adversity.

I know that this is what I want for my adult life, to be locked in a laboratory investigating everything that comes to my mind, although I love the clinical side of biochemistry, I am very curious about humans and their environment.

  1. Hi fer, I really liked your story. Like you, since I was little I have been curious and I wondered all the time what everything around me was. Unlike you, I don't like biology that much, but I do like chemistry and I guess you do too.
